Volunteering at the MotoGP
Registering to volunteer at the MotoGP is done through the Australian MotoGP website and expressions of interest are called for in May/June. I will notify everyone as soon as I know the website is open or you can keep an eye on it yourselves. I suggest you apply sooner rather than later although they don’t usually have an excess of volunteers and there is a good chance everone will be accepted. There are practice race sessions beginning at 2pm on Thursday 15 October so you would need to arrive before 12 noon to collect your credentials and make your way to the Muster shed in the Pits. This is an excellent opportunity for novices to get some training and a general idea of what is expected of them before Three full days of practice and racing begins with the Marshals briefing at 7am on Friday but is not compulsory. Uniforms (orange overalls mostly), food and water provided each day.
The MotoGP Corporation will provide detailed information to all volunteers well in advance of the weekend. Trackside camping is available for all volunteers, with two guest passes and one admission ticket given free. BYO tent or campervan. There is already a cohort of WIMA members who meet at the campsite each year and it’s great fun. You will need to find your own accommodation if camping doesn’t suit but campervan hire is a cheap alternative.
